The sound of birds singing in the trees usually sparked a plain conversation about the preservation of species and their habitats. My mother had a special place in her heart for birds.
As I became more sophisticated in my knowledge of biodiversity and its impact on the ecosystem, everything changed when I discovered fairly traded, organic and shade grown coffee. Once I regained composure from the astounding flavor, it clicked! This coffee aficionado decided to establish Aha Café, a social business dedicated to the sale of coffee with remarkable flavor and the integrity of Coffee with a Purpose:
FAIR TRADE
We only purchase coffee beans from farming co-ops and importers who are committed to Fair Trade. Fair Trade enables the farmers to keep their family owned farms, and benefit from financial, health and educational programs, while growing a great crop.
ORGANIC
Our coffees are produced without antibiotics, pesticides, -no synthetic herbicides or fertilizers used. The result, pure, exceptional coffee grown in harmony with its natural habitat.
SHADE GROWN
Our coffees are grown under a canopy of shade trees, often on small farms. Shade-grown coffee production methods ensure the preservation of ancient forests. Additionally, the forest canopy protects critical migratory bird habitat as well as habitat for numerous other species of animals and plants.
We, as consumers have the power to change things. The almighty dollar speaks volumes, and where you spend yours is a great way to let your voice be heard, one fantastic cup of coffee at a time!
