Fundraising for any reason is hard. My daughters are a testament to that. I remember their excitement when they both made the high school volleyball team. The two sisters playing together was a sight to behold. But what wasn’t such a pretty sight, were the three year old recycled uniforms they were given to wear.
Unlike boys’ sports teams, girls’ athletic endeavors are often under resourced. So my daughters set about fundraising for new uniforms by selling candy for two months, but they didn’t feel good about selling unhealthy junk food to raise the funds. As a parent who’s always been actively involved in school committees and fundraising, I became concerned when I realized that schools in California lacked arts programs. Having raised my children in Hawaii where arts, music and creative expression are an integral part of growing up, I was shocked to see so little available on the mainland. I thought, “Wow! How are children supposed to express their creativity and develop self worth without art?”
So along with my daughters, we created ‘Linking for a Cause’. It’s a way for teams, like my daughters’ volleyball squad, or organizations to raise money and support a cause. It’s a thoughtful way to share with someone you care about and give in 5 ways
• To the program raising the funds,
• 10% to AEAC Arts In Schools program
• To a local woman owned business
• To the person receiving the gift
• To yourself because when you give you receive back even more.
